How Does Electrolysis Work For Hair Removal?

Do you know what electrolysis is? If you want to learn how electrolysis works, you need to understand what electrolysis is. Electrolysis is a method that destroys the roots of the hair using a small electric current. There are several different types of electrolysis including Blend, Galvanic and Thermolysis methods. Each of these three different types of hair electrolysis removal has its own way of functioning and so one would need to understand each individual method to comprehend how electrolysis works.

Hair Removal Uses Three Different Methods of Electrolysis

Thermolysis Electrolysis

Thermolysis electrolysis uses an AC (Alternating Current) current passed through a sterile needle causing vibration in the water molecules that surround the follicles of the hair which causes heating and this damages the hair follicle causing it to die. Studying this method is another way of understanding how electrolysis hair removal works. This method is faster than galvanic electrolysis, though less reliable. This method is also known as ‘short-wave radio frequency diathermy’.

Galvanic Method of Electrolysis

When using the Galvanic method of electrolysis, a DC (Direct Current) current is passed through a sterile needle that causes a chemical reaction in the follicle of the hair causing sodium hydroxide to be poduced that will destroy the hair follicle.

Blend Electrolysis

The third method of electrolysis use is the Blend method of electrolysis which is intended to blend or employ the benefits of both the galvanic as well as thermolysis methods. Blend electrolysis passes both AC and DC currents through the sterile needle simultaneously thereby making it much faster than the galvanic electrolysis method and more likely to be permanent.

These explanations are relatively simple explanations of the process used for electrolysis hair removal.

Whatever different method of electrolysis hair removal is used, it will generally be similar when understanding how electrolysis works. This is not difficult since in all cases, a very fine metal probe is inserted into the follicle of the hair after which a tiny electric current is applied so that the hair root is destroyed.

It is important to realize when considering how electrolysis works that each hair needs to be individually treated. This is a time consuming process and depending on the sensitivity of the individual, can cause discomfort or pain and thus requires being treated by an electrologist who can suggest the best way of reducing discomfort levels.

Another factor to be taken into consideration when understanding how electrolysis hair removal works is the amount of time required. This may vary from individual to individual and may also depend on the size of the area to be treated, curvature of the follicle of hair, level of skin sensitivity as well as hormonal balance and heredity.
